Creating an Open and Inviting Space
In this early 1900s historic home, we transformed the kitchen by removing a load-bearing wall that supported the upper levels. This dramatic change opened up the space, creating a more modern and inviting layout while maintaining the home’s historic charm.
Ensuring Structural Integrity with Expert Design
The desired changes required collaboration with a Professional Engineer to design structural modifications from the basement and crawl space up to the Kitchen and Dining Room. Starting in the Basement and Crawl Space, footings were introduced to support steel columns that in turn supported a large, engineered beam that carried the load of nearly ½ of the 2 stories above it. A disciplined plan was executed involving temporary supports in collaboration with the new structural elements to avoid collateral damage. Our attention to detail and robust planning allowed us to achieve the desired openness without compromising the stability of this historic property.

Blending Old-World Charm with Modern Style
To honor the home’s history, period-specific flooring was selected to complement its classic character. This choice seamlessly blended the old with the new, ensuring the renovation stayed true to the home’s timeless appeal. We had to overcome century old original framing and mechanicals, including the updating of Knob & Tube wiring throughout the home resulting in much more than aesthetics and fit and finish, but safety and modern functionality and reliability.

Adding Functionality with a Spacious Island
A spacious new island was added to enhance the kitchen’s functionality. Perfect for cooking, dining, and gathering, the island serves as a centerpiece that balances practicality with aesthetic appeal.
